Grants 2007-2008:

 

The Women’s Foundation (Hong Kong). US $6,350 for program development, staff and NGO outreach. TWF is grant making in three key areas - economic empowerment, leadership and encouraging girls to be leaders. www.thewomensfoundationhk.org

 

The Working Women’s Forum, Chennai, India. US $500 for a micro finance project. www.workingwomensforum.org

 

The Karen Widows Independence Project, Mae Sot, Thailand. US $2,000 for a web site to market Karen weaving internationally. KWIP works with Karen widows and their children who are Burmese refugees.

 

Rural Women’s Front, Galle, Sri Lanka. US $1,625 for computer equipment to assist with international outreach. RWF works with rural women in Sri Lanka to build leadership skills to fight poverty and discrimination. www.rwfsl.com

 

Goodwill Bangkok, Bangkok, Thailand. US $1,500 to improve computer access and services. GB fights trafficking by providing training and skills to young Thai women. www.goodwillbangkok.org.

Editing and Writing:

FWAsia edited The Status of Women and Girls in Hong Kong, 2006 and wrote the executive summary. FWAsia also recently edited the TWF Newsletter and is assisting in a project to ensure consistent graphics and terminology in TWF materials. We also wrote the text for the Symposium Report, having presented the 2006 Report at the Symposium in Hong Kong, in March 2006.

US Presence:
FWAsia wrote and submitted a statement to the UN CEDAW Committee in August 2006. Board members have attended Women’s Funding Network meetings on behalf of both TWF and FWAsia, and have met with representative of US groups.

Research:
In addition to oversight of the 2006 Report, FWAsia is assisting TWF’s stakeholder engagement process by developing web based net working systems and building a web based resource data base.
